Objective
Objective: Before anything else, "The Tragedy of Richard II" is a historical account of the demise the monarchy of the eighth King of England who ruled from 1377 to 1399. This play recounts the major events of the final portion of his life. The objective of this lesson is to learn about performing history in drama.
1. For classroom discussion: What makes historical drama relevant? What makes it entertaining? What do you know of King Richard II? What do you expect from reading the play? Do you think the play will recount the events of Richard's life accurately? If it does not, would the play be able to be considered historical drama? Why or why not?
