· In Chapter 1, Chase Ambrose wakes up in the hospital with amnesia.
· He does not know his name, recognize his mother who is in his hospital room, or any details about his life.
· All he remembers is a little blonde girl about four years old wearing a blue dress with lace.
· He looks in a mirror and sees a stranger.
· His doctor tells him that he has acute retrograde amnesia—“the loss of all memory prior to a certain event” (4).
· He learns that he fell off the roof of his house.
· A young guy who introduces himself as Chase’s brother, Johnny, says that Chase’s room has a dormer window and he would crawl out and onto the eaves.
