Lesson 1 (from Part I (Pages 1 - 62, Chapters 1 - 6))
Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is for students to analyze Hawkins' descriptions of Lux's experiences working in hospitality in Part I. Lux, a young, beautiful woman, has had many experiences of being asked to do inappropriate or uncomfortable things - like the time when a man offers to pay her hundreds of dollars to eat a whole pineapple in front of him. Lux is also disgusted by some of the bizarre behaviors and items she encounters working at a luxury resort in Hawaii. She is nearly relieved in Part I when she is fired.
Lesson
Class Discussion: How does Lux feel about the Haleakala resort, and about working there? Why does she get fired? In general, what does Lux think about serving very wealthy people?
Small Group Activity: Divide the class into small groups and make a list titled "Lux's Service Experiences." Ask each group...
