Objective
The book opens with descriptions of the primary setting and main characters. Nafisi uses sensory language to create a detailed image of that place and time. In Lesson #1, students will examine the setting of the story.
Lesson
1) Class Discussion: Ask students to locate the country of Iran and the city of Tehran on a map or globe. If there is access to a cartographic map, examine the landscape of Iran. Compare the terrain of Tehran to the city in which the students live. Provide the information on the author available on the back of the book.
