Quichotte
This character is the novel's titular character. This character is 70 years old and he is based upon the titular character of a famous early sixteenth-century novel by Miguel de Cervantes. This character believes mightily in the maxim that "love will find a way," (351) but he struggles at times to differentiate between feelings of infatuation and feelings of love.
Sancho
This character is the son of the novel's titular character. He is around 15 years old when he is brought into existence as a result of two different elements: the titular character's desire for a son and "the kindness of stars," (95) as this character's father puts it. This character becomes infatuated with a particular woman during the road trip and once he runs away from his father, he drives directly back to her home, where he hopes to convince her to give herself a chance to get to know him...
