Objective

Objective: Right away, Max's character is shown to be a man of complex emotions. He notes that one has to be tough to survive in show business, but, while Max does display ruthlessness and toughness, he exhibits sensitivity and despair just as easily. These extremes in emotions make for a much more interesting and sympathetic character than would a one-note character.
