Objective

Chapter 1

Harry is forced to live with his relatives because it is the safest place for him, but Harry hates living with the Dursleys. The objective of this lesson will be to analyze some of the reasons that Harry hates living with the Dursley's and to discuss whether or not these things are worth living with for the safety that is provided to him there.

Lesson

1) Have the students make a list of all the things they have seen in the past three days that keep them safe, e.g., seat belts, helmets, smoke detectors, sunscreen. Have each student read their list and write each new item on the board. Have the students choose five of these items and write a pro/con list for them. What is good about these things.
