Experience life behind the veil

Find a sheer, black material that mimics the texture and thickness of a Muslim woman's veil. Placing the veil over your face, attempt a few everyday activities like reading a book, walking through a crowded room, signing your name and having a discussion with another person. Discuss as a class what it must be like for Muslim women to be veiled in public every moment of every day.

Act out a scene

Assign the roles of Kareem, Ali, Sultana and Sultana's father. The rest of the class will play family members in attendance at a family meeting. Reenact the scene from Chapter 1 in which the family was summoned to Sultana's father's house where Sultana was confronted with a copy of her book, Princess, and Ali and his father read mockingly from the book.
