Several of the characters in Prey are overly concerned with accumulating wealth and success. Eventually these obsessions lead to their downfall. Write an essay explaining how wealth and success play into the lives of Jack, Julia, Ellen, Ricky, and others. Which characters strive the most to be wealthy and successful? Why? Which characters obsess to the point at which these elements become their downfall? Why? What happens to them? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.

Technology is the most dominant element in Prey. Write an essay exploring the ideas of technology and technological advances. How is technology important to the story? How do technological advances both hinder and help the protagonists? What lesson is to be learned from the story when it comes to technology and using it wisely? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.

Essay Topic 3

Write an essay explaining how Ricky's personality changes throughout the story. What types of things does he joke about when Jack catches him in the supermarket? How is Ricky's behavior much different after Jack reaches the facility? How does he treat Jack when they are working together? What types of suspicious things does he do that eventually leads Jack to suspect him? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.
