Write an essay for ONE of the following topics:

Essay Topic 1

Infidelity plays a major role in the protagonist's life in Prey. Jack thinks that Julia is having an affair from the beginning of the story. He has no concrete evidence and yet he is nearly positive that something strange is going on. Write an essay explaining the reasons why Jack thinks that Julia is having an affair. Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.

Essay Topic 2

Sacrifice is an element several of the characters experience. While some characters are more sacrificial than others, there are many instances of people trying to help each other in times of duress and need. Write an essay detailing the sacrificial actions some of the characters take for others. Which character sacrifices the most? How so? Explain. Which characters sacrifice the least? Why? Are there any characters that do nothing for anyone but themselves? If so, who is it and why do they do it? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.

Essay Topic 3

Honesty is a trait that is scarcely found in the older characters in Prey. Jack is an honest man while Julia is a dishonest woman. The same goes for Mae and Ricky. Write an essay exploring the ideas of honesty and truth. How does honesty play into the plot of the story? Which characters are the most truthful, open, and honest? Which are the least truthful? Which are the most secretive? Why? Could being honest have saved the lives of some of the characters in Prey? Why or why not? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.
