The Crow Indian tribe is mentioned quite often because Pretty-shield was a member of the Crow tribe. In this lesson, we will discuss the Crow Indian tribe, some of their traditions and legends, and the importance the played in the book and in American history.

1) Reading and Class Discussion: Have the students skim through the book and find examples of some Crow traditions, stories, or people. Hand out a brief description and history of the Crow tribe to the class to peruse and discuss. What things did you discover about the Crow tribe from reading the book?
