Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine the story Lydia tells about Dee's father to Penelope Ward, and whether her story was a lie or a prevarication. Lies are outright untruths. When someone prevaricates, they might leave out information or shape a narrative to give a certain impression or to achieve certain goals.

Class Discussion: After Penelope asks for information about Dee's father, why does Lydia consider the pros and cons of telling the story? What could be the negative repercussions of telling the story? What details does Lydia leave out of the story? Why does Lydia omit some incriminating details? How does leaving out some information give a sanitized version that is not likely to reflect badly on Lydia or Dee? Is the story Lydia tells a lie or a prevarication?
