Lesson 1 (from Chapter 1: Thieves)
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the exposition of the novel. Students will identify and analyze elements from the beginning of Prep in order to identify the main characters, the setting, and any potential conflicts and themes the novel might contain.
The beginning of the novel introduces the reader to Lee, the protagonist, and Ault, the setting of the novel. The reader is introduced to themes involving loneliness, envy, and the power of money, Finally, readers are introduced to potential conflicts, such as Lee’s conflicts with society and herself.
