Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze the symbolism of the Tides in the House. Piranesi has realized that the Tides can be dangerous in that they might drown him if he is not careful to avoid the most powerful ones. The Other was once almost killed by a powerful tide. But for Piranesi, the tides are also what bring him food and allow him to sustain himself using just what the House provides.
Lesson
Class Discussion: How does Piranesi understand the workings of the Tides in the House? What are some of the dangers of the Tides? What are some of the advantages of the Tides?
Small Group Activity: Divide the class into small groups and ask each group of students to create a table titled "Tides," splitting it into two columns, with one column listed as "Positives" and one as "Negatives...
