Objective

Objective: Chapter 1 introduces many of the main characters of the story. The objective of this lesson is to speculate about how the characters will affect each other as the story progresses.

1) Class discussion:

How do Anne, Sir Elliot and Elizabeth seem to relate to each other? Who appears to be in charge? Who appears to be most sensible? How might Lady Russell factor in?

Class activity:

Divide the class into four groups. Assign one of Sir Elliot, Anne, Elizabeth and Lady Russell to each group. Ask each group to write down facts that are learned about their character in chapter one and share them with the class.
