· In Chapter 1, Pax has been running ever since he was caged.
· Today he is running because he can feel spring is in the air.
· He smells rabbit.
· His mate, Bristle, is always hungry, and he has been unable to find enough for her to eat because so many young animals he finds are dead.
· He follows the smell of rabbit and finds two dead kits in the warren.
· Pax returns to Bristle, and she is curled up in the den sleeping.
· Bristle wakes and tells him that they are expecting kits.
· In Chapter 2, Peter is planing boards on the floor of his cabin.
· Vola said he could sand them, but he wants them perfect.
· He cuts his hand on the planer and he remembers...
