Ranks and Rates: Military Research
Military protocol can appear extraordinary to an outsider, unfamiliar with the concept of ranks and without knowledge of who outranks whom, character interactions can seem confusing. Research military ranks, especially Navy and Air Force. Learn how the services differ, what the difference is between officers and enlisted and why a commander might also called a captain under certain circumstances. How many kinds of Admirals are there? Does an Admiral outrank a General? It is especially important to learn the initial abbreviations for each rank (for example, LTC = Lieutenant Colonel which is a different rank AND service from an LCDR = Lieutenant Commander.).
