• The narrative is related from the first-person perspective of the novel’s protagonist, 16-year-old Lara Jean Song Covey, a half-Korean girl who lives in Virginia with her father and younger sister.

• The opening of the novel is a letter from Lara Jean to Peter. In it, she tells him that she misses him although it has only been five days. She wonders if they will ever talk again. She tells him that she was scared by what happened with them in the hot tub and how much she liked it.
