Objective

Objective: OVERTONES is a 1920 play written by Alice Gerstenberg. The aim of this lesson is to introduce the play.

1. Class discussion. Have the students heard of the play before? What do the students expect from the book? Why do they expect these things to happen?

2. Brainstorm Alice Gerstenberg's past works with the students. Do her books share similar themes? Divide the students into pairs and assign them each a book to research. On their return, discuss what the students expect from OVERTONES?

3. With the students look at the questions Gerstenberg asks in the opening chapter of the novel. Divide the students into pairs and ask the students to write down five questions Gestenberg poses in the opening chapter.
