Objective
Out of My Mind is a young adult novel by Sharon Draper. In Chapter 1, the reader is introduced to the narrator and protagonist of the story, Melody Brooks. Melody is almost eleven years old and relates a world of isolation and an obsession with words. Objectives for this lesson include researching author Sharon Draper, analyzing the narrative style introduced in Chapter 1, and discussing the motifs of words and language in Out of My Mind.
