• In Part 1, Changing, Jude is a young girl living in Syria with her older brother Issa, her father (Baba) and mother (Mama).

• Jude lives in a coastal town in Syria where tourists from inland in the country and from abroad flock in the summer.

• Jude's Baba does not like her to talk to people they do not know, including tourists. Jude likes to talk very much, but her parents often tell her "skety," meaning "be quiet."

• Everyone says there is no one left in Aleppo to come to the tourist village this summer.
