A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Select you favorite character or characters and draw a picture of that person. You could also draw pictures of the Indian camp and the surrounding countryside as described by May. You might consider what some of Helen's pictures looked like.

Create a Costume

Design an Indian outfit that might have been worn by May or one of the other women. You might also consider how Indian clothing has influenced contemporary American clothing. For example, we still wear moccasins. What other pieces of Indian clothing are found today?

Make Music

Research Native American music and instruments. Draw a picture of an instrument. Find a current instrument and recording and share them with the class. There is information on the internet about contemporary musicians who attempt to keep the music of their tribes alive.
