Objective
Introduction to the Author
David Mamet is an award-winning playwright, author, screenwriter, film director, and essayist. Born in 1947, Mamet has written over twenty plays and numerous screenplays, including Glengarry Glen Ross, Oleanna, The Spanish Prisoner, and Wag the Dog, and has directed well over ten films, including State and Main, which he also wrote. In today's lesson, students are introduced to the author of On Directing Film and will research his works, history, and achievements.

1) Class Discussion: Introduce the class to On Directing Film by David Mamet. Ask the class if any students are familiar with Mamet's work as a filmmaker, playwright, or essayist. Mamet has written books on the techniques of acting, film-making, and directing, as well as writing over 20 plays, numerous screenplays and screen adaptations, and has directed over ten feature films.
