Gardner's Novels
Give students the opportunity to read, outside of class, one of Gardner's novels. They should write a review of the work and detail how the author's techniques from On Becoming a Novelist are enacted.
Write a Poem
When discussing the different qualities of language, students should write a poem which exercises these techniques.
Criticism
Students should take time to research criticism directed toward Gardner and his techniques and write a comparative essay on it.
Inspirations
Students should research the biography of Gardner's life, marriages, childhood, etc. and write an essay detailing how these events shaped his vision of the author.
Collage
Students should make a collage based upon some section of the book or imagery which Gardner suggests.

Students should create a web page dedicated to the study of On Becoming a Novelist, including quotes, excerpts, study materials, etc.
