Of Beetles and Angels: A Boy's Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard is an autobiography by Mawi Asgedom relating his story as a refugee who came to America when he was young. Through hard work and his father's influence, Mawi went on to become a Harvard graduate. In this lesson, students are introduced to the book, and they will research and discuss the biography and works of author Mawi Asgedom.

1) Teacher Lecture: Introduce the students to the book and author. Of Beetles and Angels: A Boy's Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard is an autobiography by Mawi Asgedom. The narrative relates Mawi's early childhood in Ethiopia and Eritrea, his family's life in Sudan as refugees, and their immigration to the United States.
