Chapter 1

The objective of Daily Lesson #1 is for students to recall genre characteristics.

Lesson

1. Class Discussion: Have the students identify the characteristics of various genres and identify which genre this book falls into (historical fiction)

2. Partner Activity: Have the students provide examples of different books which can also be considered historical fiction.

3. Writing Activity: Have the students identify why this book is historical fiction and provide another example of a novel which would fall into this genre, as well as examples of novels which will not fall into this category but are either fiction or about history.

4. Individual Activity: Have the students research the genre of historical fiction and name two other books which fit into this genre.

Homework: Have the students provide a list of books written about the Holocaust which are fiction.
