Chapter Titles

Have the students create titles and illustrations for each of the chapters in this book.

The Moral of the Story

Have the students create a collage or some kind of visual display of what they think the moral of this book was.

Character Collages

Have the students create a collage of their favorite character. Allow each student to present their collage, and discuss the differences in the choices for the characters.

Book Club

Hold a book club outside of class where you read some of the books that are mentioned in this story, for example The Call of the Wild, The Outsiders, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar.

Track Meet

As a class, attend a track meet for the school, or watch a video of a track and field event. Have the students write about why Phillip would have been so drawn to this environment.
