Drugs and alcohol play various different roles for Alex at different points in her life. At first, she finds they help her avoid her problems with seeing ghosts, or "Grays." Later, she becomes involved in dealing drugs with her boyfriend, and still later, as Dante, drugs and hallucinogenics take on other meanings for her. Write an essay exploring the different meanings drug take on for Alex throughout the novel, and explore her changing relationship with them.
