Chapter 1

• Each chapter follows a different character’s viewpoint; the first chapter follows Yao’s perspective.
• It was Yao’s first day on the job as a paramedic-in-training.
• Yao and his supervisor, Finn, were called to an office to assist a woman whose “was pale and clammy, her breathing ragged” (2).
• Based on her office, Yao deduced she was “something of a bigwig” (2).
• The woman, whose name was Masha, refused help from the paramedics and continued to work.
• Masha’s assistant was clearly upset by Masha’s behavior and informed the paramedics that her boss had fallen earlier.
• Masha was determined to continue working until another episode occurred, causing the paramedics to help her to the floor.
• Yao determined she was having a seizure, but Finn ordered...
