Nature Personified

Oliver gave personalities and characteristics to the different natural settings written about in these poems. Have the students come up with personalities and characteristics for some of the natural landmarks around them.

Reincarnation

Oliver talks about not being able to wait until she gets to die and be reborn as a hummingbird. Have the students write about what animal they think they would be reincarnated as and why.

Illustrated Poems

Have the students choose some of their favorite poems and create some illustrations that show the depth and tone of the poem.

Poetry Reading

Hold a poetry reading after school and allow the students to read their favorite poems included in this book, or even some of their own.

Meditation
