Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is for students to analyze the purpose of Areum's writing project about his parents' and family's history. In Part I, Areum embarks on a purposeful mission to find out details about his parents' story and his own origin story. Through Areum's eyes, Kim informs the reader about Mira's and Daesu's decisions, hopes, and dreams as young teenagers facing an unplanned pregnancy, developing their characters more thoroughly.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Why is Areum so curious about his parents' background and history in Part I? Why is Areum's writing project - of his family's own story - so important to him? Why does he keep the project a secret? How does Kim use Areum's project as a way to develop the characters of Mira and Daesu?
