Objective

MORT could easily be described as a humorous book. The objective of this lesson is to look at the different types of literature.

Lesson

1) Discussion: Do you agree that MORT could be called a humorous book? What about the book early on leads you to this conclusion?

2) Classwork: Have the students list off five different places in the story in which the author uses different methods to convey humor. Explain the methods the author uses.

3) Homework: A common set of genres found in literature are humor, drama, action, horror, romance and drama. Have the students pick one of these that they feel would be the easiest to write. Have them explain why they feel that this one is the easiest to incorporate in a piece of literature and why.

4) Debate: Split the students into two different groups. Have one group argue that MORT fit easily into...
