• The epigraph consists of an excerpt from a journal article entitled “False Allegations of Sexual Assault: An Analysis of Ten Years of Reported Cases.”

• The lengthy epigraph begins by stating, “Rape is unique. No other violent crime is so fraught with controversy, so enmeshed in dispute and in the politics of gender and sexuality” (ix).
