Miss Julia, a wealthy socialite, is missing her prized rings. She tears around the house in a panic, searching for her missing jewelry. The objective of this lesson is to explore Miss Julia's reaction to her missing rings and the way her attachment to her possessions fuels her behavior.

Lesson

1) As a class, discuss: What is missing from Julia's room? Why are these objects of value to Julia? How does she react to their loss? Why does she seek the advice and assistance of her maid, Lillian?

2) Have each student write a paragraph to share with the class. How do we assign value to an object? Do you think that Julia is concerned over the financial loss of her rings, which most likely can be recouped from an insurance policy; the sentimental value they hold; or the grief of simply losing a personal possession...
