Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author’s background and personal interest in the subject matter reflected in the novel. Students will discuss who the author is, where she came from and why she may have written this story. Students will learn what other books the author has written and how her work has been received by the public and critics.

Class Discussion: Who is the author of Miss Benson's Beetle? Where is she from? What year was the novel published? How was this work received by the public? What other works has the author written? How might the author’s background influence your reading of the book?
Small Group Activity: Divide students into small groups and ask students to compile a list of facts about the author, encouraging them to include information that impacts the stories, themes, and characters...
