Introduction to the Play and Playwright
Tony Kushner is an American playwright whose themes often deal with sociopolitical topics. Kushner is greatly influenced by the playwright/director Bertolt Brecht, and his plays stylistically reflect this in his departure from realism and political themes. Kushner received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1993 for Angels in America. In today's class, students are introduced to Millennium Approaches, Part I of Angels in America, and the playwright Tony Kushner.
