1. What are two of Frankie's fears and why does she have these fears?

Frankie is sincerely afraid that she is going to grow to be over 9 feet tall because she has grown 4 inches during the summer. If she keeps growing until she's 18, Frankie thinks she'll be a circus freak. Frankie is also afraid of the dark. She did not know what caused this fear, but she does remember that when she was younger, she believed that three ghosts were living in the coal house, and one of the ghosts wore a silver ring.

2. What is Frankie's initial reaction to her brother's engagement?

In conversation with Berenice, Frankie admits that it was queer seeing her brother and his fiancee in the house. Although Berenice thinks that Frankie is jealous, Frankie does not admit to being jealous of her brother's engagement. She actually feels that the wedding is sudden. She had never thought about a wedding seriously, but she wishes that she did not have to return home after the wedding.
