Lesson 1 (from Prologue: 2007 - Chapter 1: 2009)
Objective
Me Before You is a contemporary novel by British author Jojo Moyes. The narrative, related largely from the first-person perspective of protagonist Louisa “Lou” Clark, details her coming to work for quadriplegic Will Traynor and her coming to terms with Will’s intent to undergo assisted suicide. This lesson examines the novel’s Prologue, which is related from the third-person perspective of an outside narrator. Students will explore the setting of London, England, in 2007, analyze the character of Will Traynor, and discuss the narrative style and exposition in the Prologue: 2007.
