Louisa Clark

This character is the protagonist and main narrator of Me Before You. She is 26 years old when the novel begins and has just lost her job at a cafe where she has worked for seven years. After several failed attempts, she finds employment as a caregiver to a quadriplegic man whom she comes to care deeply for.

Will Traynor

In the main narrative, this character is a 35-year-old quadriplegic who was injured from a motorcycle collision two years prior. Before his accident, he lived an exciting life, had a beautiful girlfriend, and was successful in business. Since his accident, he has become despondent and suicidal.

Patrick

This character is the protagonist's boyfriend. He is a personal trainer and is obsessed with marathon training. In the course of the novel, he and his girlfriend of seven years break up over her job caring for a quadriplegic.
