Idea Map
Working backwards from the text as presented, draw out an idea-map of the first part of the book. That is, draw out the kind of graphic brainstorming device likely to lead to Saad’s text (or, for more focus, DiAngelo’s foreword).
Map and Collage
Map out the broad movements of Saad’s family, as she discusses it in her self-introduction. Produce a collage of possible or likely influences on her based on that map.
Picturing Readers
Produce a picture of Saad’s ideal reader. Discuss, verbally or in writing, why that reader looks the way the reader does.
Counter-discussion
Most of the time, students are expected to talk about what they like in a book. This time, talk about what you do not like in the book—and why you do not like it.
