Show clips from Puccini's Madame Butterfly. There are several clips to be found on YouTube, or you may rent it off of Netflix. Show the climaxes of each Act that are illustrated by Gallimard within the play of M. Butterfly, namely, the marriage scene, Sharpless' encounter with Butterfly and her child and Butterfly's suicide. Hold a discussion afterward comparing the story to that of M. Butterfly.

Crossdressing Culture Shock

Show clips of famous movies that involve cross-dressing as a major part of the plot line. Some of these include The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Tootsie, Some Like it Hot, The Birdcage, Victor/Victoria or even She's the Man. You may also choose to show more serious films, such as Boys Don't Cry or The World According to Garp. Regardless of what films you show, have an in-class discussion of how cross-dressing and the transsexual community is portrayed...
