Objective: Introduction | Preface This book is autobiographical. The objective of this lesson will be to review some major aspects of Mark Twain's life and to discuss why he decided to write and publish this book in the manner he did.

1) Provide a brief overview of Mark Twain's life along with some of the major events in his life. Split the class into groups and assign each group one of the major events from his life. Instruct e to study their event and write about how this event would have shaped his life and affected his writing style. Allow each group to present its information. Discuss some of the different ideas that are presented.

2) Review each character in the prologue. Have the students identify each character and the classify them as the protagonist, a main character, a minor character, a foil, etc. Have the students use the information...
