Objective

"Experiences in a Concentration Camp" - Frankl opens his book with a description of the different roles people played in the concentration camp. This lesson will discuss the different groups of people in the camp.

Lesson

1) Group pr partner discussion: What are the different classes of prisoners? What is the difference between how the Capos and the ordinary prisoners were treated and rewarded? How did one become a Capo? For Frankl, what did the competition among the prisoners mean about who survived the camp?

2) Individual activity: Based on the description of how the prisoners behaved, and how the Capo were rewarded with cigarettes and food, draw or create a collage of an image of how you imagine a few of the Capos and a few "ordinary" prisoners.

3) Debate: Frankl writes that because of the competition among the prisoners, "We who have come back, by the aid...
