Objective

Objective: In Act 1, Scene 1, even though the boys do not want to stay with their grandmother, they come to understand that their father is doing an honorable thing by taking this job. This lesson will discuss sacrifice and understanding.

1) Class Discussion: Where are the boys, Jay and Arty, to be left? Why?

Small Group Activity: Do the boys understand why their father is leaving? What are both the boys and the father sacrificing to have a better life?

Class Discussion: Share the small groups' thoughts on the boys' understanding of their father leaving, as well as the sacrifices that they all make. How will the boys handle the time without their father? How will the father deal with being away from his sons?
