Objective
Lord of the Flies is a classic dystopian novel by English author William Golding. The novel tells the story of a group of English schoolboys who become trapped on a deserted island amidst a war, and revolves around themes of civility versus savagery, the individual versus the community, and the loss of innocence. In this lesson, students will conduct research on William Golding, and will identify, analyze, and discuss the setting and narrative point of view established in Chapter 1: “The Sound of the Shell.”
