Objective

LORD OF CHAOS is categorized as fantasy, a genre of fiction.

The objective of this lesson is to look at genre in literature.

Lesson

1. Homework. Have the students research the genre of fantasy writing a short paper on it. They may answer questions such as: who were early authors such as Tolkien. How did they influence fiction during their era? How has the fantasy genre built upon early editions of it? Give some examples of parallels between modern fantasy and early fantasy. What are some of the differences? How does this novel, differ from other fantasy novels?

2. Class discussion Have the students identify why this book is fantasy and provide another example of a novel which would fall into this genre as well as examples of novels which will not fall into this category. Discuss the differences.
