Objective

Objective: The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven is a compilation of short stories that feature some of the same characters in or near the Spokane Indian reservation. The objective of this lesson is to introduce and explore the elements of short stories and what makes it a distinct genre.

1. Class discussion: What are some short stories? What makes them short stories? How are they different than novels? Create two columns, one column with short story at the top and the other with novel at the top. The students make lists about their features and compare the two genres.
