Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine how Delilah and Gus are treated by Eddie and Martha, and what is revealed about inhumane treatment. Delilah and Gus are kept in total darkness in a basement. They are given barely edible food and have nothing but the clothes they wear.

Class Discussion: How does Delilah feel when she hears footsteps above her head? What is the place like where Delilah and Gus are held captive? How dark is it? What do Delilah and Gus have to wear? Why are they always cold? How do they have to sleep on the floor? Where do they have to sit? How often are they allowed to bathe and how do they have to clean themselves? What are the only things that Delilah and Gus have to do? What are they given to eat? What can Delilah hear splashing...
