Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is to explore background information on genre and time period as preparation for reading "Tintern Abbey." "Tintern Abbey" is profoundly influenced by the philosophies of British Romanticism and is an example of a typical genre of the period, the loco-descriptive poem. This lesson introduces students to the characteristics of British Romanticism and to the place of Lyrical Ballads, the text in which the poem was published, within the Romantic movement. Then, it introduces them to the loco-descriptive genre and asks them to use the characteristics of this genre and the larger Romantic movement to predict features of "Tintern Abbey."
