The objective of this lesson is to understand the reasons that prenatal care is so important.
Lesson
1) Initiate a class discussion into prenatal care in expectant mothers. What exactly is eclampsia or preeclampsia? How has medicine evolved to deal with eclampsia in expectant mothers? Can this be treated?
2) Break the class into groups and debate the importance of prenatal care overall. Are there more issues that can be problematic during delivery but are completely treatable if detected beforehand? What are they, and how do they affect mother and / or child?
3) In short essay form, explain how childbirth has changed over the past several decades. How has the position of midwife slowly been phased out, and why is it making a comeback in some places? Is this a good idea?
4) In essay form, compare and contrast prenatal care now...
