Cunningham College

This is where the narrator attends college. This place symbolizes how lost the narrator is in her life. She goes to college thinking it will open up her world when in reality, it leaves her even more confused about who she is and what she wants out of life.

Friendship Albums

This is a project that the women of the Ladies' Intelligence Society embark on during their time as a group. Every day they write compliments to each other in hand-sewn notebooks. This object is a symbol of the narrator's mother's jealousy of other women. While their booklets are jam-packed with compliments, hers is thin and less worn, meaning that the other women are not as close to her as they are to each other.

Civil War

This is a war between the Union and the Confederacy that breaks out while the narrator is still coming...
